RAWALPINDI, Aug 25: The Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) is set to start its electioneering campaign with a train march scheduled for August 28 from Rawalpindi to Karachi.
A meeting was held here on Sunday at the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) headquarters to discuss the arrangements for the three-day train march.
The amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Punjab, Hafiz Mohammad Idrees, presided over the meeting which was attended by MMA local leaders including Dr Mohammad Kamal, Dr Afzal Aizaz, Maulana Mohammad Abbas Butt, Qari Abdur Rashid, Maulana Abdul Jalil and candidates from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal districts.
Central MMA leaders including president Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani, vice-president Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Maulana Samiul Haq, Allama Sajjid Ali Naqvi and Maulana Sajjid Mir will lead the train caravan.
To a question, Hafiz Idrees said they had approached the administration for permission. It will be a peaceful march and the administration should not have any misgivings about it, he said, adding that they would not create any law and order situation. It is not for the first time we will be arranging such a march, and there has never been any case in which any untoward incident occurred, he said.
“It won’t trouble anyone nor delay the trains, and passengers should not worry, he added.
