KARACHI, Aug 25: More than 900 tons of garbage and debris were lifted in Saddar Town during the last few days as part of its ten-day cleanliness campaign.

The Town officials said as many as 1300 sanitary staff, 58 refuse vans, four Bob-cat removers, five dumpers, a tractor shovel and a loader were involved in the drive.

They said the sanitary staff cleansed garbage dumps and debris and sprayed limestone powder at these sites. The colouring work of the Haqqani Chowk’s roundabout and the monument and patchwork at Dr Ziauddin Road was also completed.

A statement issued by the municipal administration said City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, who visited various areas of the Town along with Town Nazim Farooq Fariya, expressed satisfaction over the progress of work.

During the visit, the City Nazim also inspected Pakistan Chowk, Burns Road, Sindh Secretariat, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, Raja Mansion area, Ranchore line, Nishtar Road, Bhimpura and Lea Market.

The Nazim impressed upon the officers to discharge their duties and make the cleanliness campaign a success. He also called for speeding up tree plantation campaign to make the city greener.

The Karachi City Government has initiated a ten-day cleanliness drive in the 18 towns for which necessary equipment and machinery were provided to the Towns.
