NHA imposes load limit for highway

LANDI KOTAL, Aug 24: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has imposed load restrictions on the Peshawar-Landi Kotal-Torkhum Highway.

According to sources in the NHA, the highway is in a bad condition, and can not bear load exceeding 12 tons. The authority has imposed the load limit after a meeting of the transporters’ representatives and the assistant political agent of Jamrud.

A recent partial collapse of one of the eight bridges across the highway at Sur Kamar near Jamrud worsened its condition. It took the NHA almost three months to repair the bridge.

The owners of heavy vehicles have repeatedly been warned by the political administration of the deteriorating condition of the road, but the transporters have not heeded to such warnings.

But the NHA and the political administration have complained that the transporters are not abiding by the new load rule.

They have warned the transporters that as the condition of the bridges is not good, they could collapse any time. In case, such an unfortunate thing happens, the transportation will come to a standstill, as they have no alternate route to Afghanistan.
