KABUL, Aug 24: A New Zealand freelance reporter was killed in a road accident just outside the Afghan capital of Kabul, international peacekeepers said on Saturday.

A spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) told a news briefing the reporter died when his vehicle overturned on Friday just outside the city on the road east to Jalalabad.

He was thrown from the vehicle and died later of his injuries. The accident happened at around six p.m. local time.

Radio New Zealand named the reporter as Alistair McLeod, who worked for The Australian newspaper.

A Spaniard was also injured in the accident and was in stable condition in hospital on Saturday, ISAF said.—Reuters
