TEL AVIV, Aug 23: Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has postponed a planned visit to the United States amid press reports of opposition from US Democrats to the timing of a planned meeting with Florida governor Jeb Bush.

The daily Haaretz said senior officials had advised Sharon against the planned meeting with US President George W. Bush’s younger brother at a time when he is facing a tough reelection campaign against a Democratic challenger.

The officials had argued that it could be construed as interference in US politics.—AFP
