KARACHI, Aug 22: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) beat Defence Housing Authority (DHA) by five wickets in the 11th Hinopak Trophy KCCA Inter-firms league cricket tournament at Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground Wednesday.
KPT emerged as the group champions from pool ‘B’ and secured the quarterfinal berth with DHA which finished runners-up in the group qualify for the quarterfinal at Agha Khan Gymkhana Thursday.
Batting first, DHA were bowled out for 172 in 39.3 overs. Sohail Taqi hit a polished 75. Haris Ayaz 3-37, Rashid Hanif 2-46, Iqbal Sheikh 2-23 bowled well.
KPT in reply reached the target in 39th over scoring 175-5 thanks to a fine 53 by Wajihuddin. Fahadullah (35) and Bilal Murtaza (28) were the other main contributors.
In the second match KESC beat Wackenhut Security Pakistan by 21 runs at UBL Sports Complex.
KESC mustered 184 for eight in 40 overs. Asifuddin Ghori (46), Zafar Ali (37), Shahid Dawood (29) and Asadullah Semeri (29) were their main runs-getters. Nisar Abbas chipped in with four for 67.
Wackenhut crashed to 163 all out in 37.1 overs. Burhan Mehmood topscored with 42. Shoukat Mirza (40) and Amjad Ali Baig with an unbeaten 22 showed batting touch. Off-spinner Irfanuddin claimed three for 42 and Jaffar Qureshi bagged two for 53.—APP
