LAHORE, Aug 21: The combined river flow dipped further on Wednesday to a total of 292,100 cusecs; out of which 228,800 cusecs were released for irrigation purposes and 63,300 cusecs stored in two dams.

The Indus river at Tarbela further came down to 175,700 cusecs and the outflow was reduced to 119,000 cusecs. The lake level went up to 1539.82 feet — 10.18 feet short of optimum level of 1550 feet. The lake now stores around 6.3 million acre feet out of live capacity of 7.2maf.

The Jhelum at Mangla also came down to 21,600 cusecs and outflow was also decreased to 15,000 cusecs. The lake level has gone up to 1205 feet, three feet above the optimum level, with a total storage of 4.8maf against optimum capacity of 4.6maf.

According to the barrages report, Jinnah had an inflow of 143,000 cusecs and an outflow of 135,000; Chashma 160,900 and 160,000; Taunsa 165,100 and 136,600; Guddu 284,200 and 264,400; Sukkur 100,200 and 145,200; and Kotri 17,500 cusecs with no outflow.

The Chenab river had an inflow of 61,700 cusecs at Marala and the Kabul dipped to 33,100 cusecs. —Staff Reporter
