LAHORE, Aug 18: Most union councils in the province have failed to send their budgets for the fiscal year 2002-3 to the district accounts officers concerned so far.
There are about 3,300 UCs in the Punjab. The UCs were required to convene budget sessions by the end of July but most Nazimeen were not aware of the deadline.
Of the 150 union councils in the Lahore City District not a single UC had adopted its budget when District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood asked the Lahore District Council, comprising mainly UC Nazimeen, about it during the LDC budget session on July 30.
He advised them to get their budgets approved by convening the budget sessions of their UCs “on July 30 or earlier”.
The district accounts officer had not received the copy of any UC budget till recently. He hoped to start receiving the same by the end of the month.
