Three cops held on governor’s order

GUJRANWALA, Nov 7: Three police officials, including an SHO, were arrested and as many others dismissed from service on the orders of the governor for abetting criminals in an abduction case and keeping two men in illegal detention on Wednesday.

Governor Khalid Maqbool paid a surprise visit to the Eminabad police station on his way to Gujranwala and found that Farman Ali and Mustafa were detained in the lock-up without registration of any case against them.

He ordered the SSP to arrest SHO Zulfikar Ali, ASI Muhammad Akram and Moharar Sifat Husain besides dismissing them from service. He also ordered that ASI Zulfikar and two constables Khalid and Saifullah should be terminated from service.

The governor also ordered that the accused involved in the dacoity-cum-murder case of Chianwali village should be arrested within four days. The governor also paid a surprise visit to the divisional headquarters civil hospital.

DACOITIES: Dacoits went on rampage in and around the city on Wednesday and made off with cash, gold ornaments and valuables.

Five masked dacoits forced their entry into the house of Ghulam Mustafa in Mehlowal village and held up the family. They collected Rs150,000 in cash, jewellery and electronic goods and escaped.

A medicine company vehicle was on its way to Tetley from Naushera Virkan when it was intercepted by three armed men near Mari Bhindran village. The interceptors snatched Rs100,000 in cash and medicines from salesman Akbar Ali and fled.

Chaudhry Sahibdad of Balakan village, Naushera Virkan, was going along with his wife on a motorcycle. On Tetley Road, three highwaymen snatched Rs5,000 in cash and gold ornaments from the couple and fled.

GANG BUSTED: Baghbanpura police claimed on Wednesday having busted six members of an inter-district gang of dacoits and drug traffickers and recovered a huge quantity of looted goods and illicit arms from their possession.
