KABUL, Aug 18: British soldiers held a church service at their base here on Sunday in memory of two colleagues who were killed in a shooting incident at Kabul airport.

The two soldiers have been named as Sergeant Robert Busuttil and Corporal John Gregory who were both members of the logistics corps serving with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in the Afghan capital.

“A police investigation is ongoing and a coroner’s court will be convened in England in due course,” British spokesman Major James Kelly said.

The two victims, who were both aged 30, were based at Bulford camp in Wiltshire, western England, Kelly added.

Military officials have given few details about the incident which occurred at around 1.00 am on Saturday, except to say that both men suffered fatal gunshot wounds and that the deaths were not the result of hostile action.—AFP
