KARACHI, Aug l7: Several parts of former districts Central and West have been facing an acute shortage of water for the past five days.
Residents said they had either been without water or received scant supply for hardly half an hour since Tuesday when a 72-inch main pipeline burst near Dhabeji. The KWSB had not restored normal supply to their localities.
The worst-affected localities include Federal B- Area’s blocks 10, 14, 15 and 16, Buffer Zone’s Sector 15-A/5, North Karachi’s Sector 11-C/1 and several sectors of Orangi, Baldia and Surjani townships.
KWSB officials attributed the persisting water shortage problem in the areas hooked to the Hub dam source to reduced quantity of water now being supplied to Hub canal from the Hub source, and they accused the officials concerned of Wapda of not implementing the decision of the high-powered committee on Hub water supply whereby they were bound to supply 45 million gallons of water per day to the city for three consecutive days after a gap of every two days.
Residents of the affected localities urged the city Nazim to instruct the officials concerned of the KWSB to restore normal supply without any further delay.
TURBID WATER: Turbid water continues to be supplied to most pats of the city. The supply of turbid water has been continuing for the past two months. Despite a public outcry over this problem, the authorities have so far remained unmoved.
Consumers deplored the attitude of the KWSB. They said the threat being posed by turbid water was to obvious to be emphasized.
