KARACHI, Nov 7: Sindh governor Muhammedmian Soomro has directed the educational boards in Sindh to play their essential role towards promoting the standard of education.
He issued the directive while addressing the chairmen of all the boards of intermediate and secondary education in the province at the governor’s house here on Wednesday.
The meeting was also attended by Sindh education minister Anita Ghulam Ali, principal secretary Brig (rtd) Akhtar Zamin, secretary education Nazar Hussain Maher, additional secretary Hashim Reza Zaidi and other officials.
On the occasion chairman Board of Secondary Education Karachi and Committee of Chairmen of Boards, Prof Aziz Ansari, briefed the meeting in detail about the activities and performance of Sindh’s educational boards.
The governor, while referring to the recent results of the Sindh Public Service Commission, expressed his concern over educational standard in the province, particularly in the interior of Sindh.
He directed that action be taken against educational institutions which did not come up to the prescribed standards.
He called for maintaining complete transparency in the boards and matters relating to examinations and said that these should be protected against all pressures.
The governor said that customary preparation of examination papers be given up now and they should be compiled in a manner which that could help develop the abilities of students.
He stressed the elimination of all irregularities from the examination system, including the copy culture.
Mr Soomro also directed mutual coordination between among education department, educational institutions, educational boards and all other related bodies.
He said that the system for issuance of educational certificates and degrees should also be improved and in this regard called for wiping out procedures and impediments which caused delays.
The meeting was informed that substantial headway had been made in connection with computerization in the boards and that from next year the results, transfer of record and degrees would be computerised along with scanned photographs on all documents.
E-GOVT: Most phases of E-government project in Sindh will be completed by March next year, linking the departments of the Sindh government and districts through the Wide Area Networking (WAN).
The pace of ongoing work in this regard was reviewed by Sindh governor, Muhammedmian Soomro at the governor’s house on Wednesday evening. He also inspected the website of the governor’s house which would be accessible to the public by December this year.
After the website becomes operative, the people can send their proposals, complaints and problems directly to the governor
The internal networking at the governor’s house was also completed today.
The governor said that under the E-government all efforts should be directed towards the attainment of transparency and justice in administrative affairs.
Deputy project director of the E-government project, Aftab Alam, apprised the governor of the ongoing work and said that 200 telephone lines were being acquired and after the completion of the project any person could contact a department from any part of the country at the expense of one local call.—APP
