ISLAMABAD, Aug 16: The Acting British High Commissioner, Julian Evans, awarded the Chevening Scholarship Awards to successful candidates at a reception held here on Thursday evening.
The reception was held to bid farewell to successful candidates proceeding to study in the UK under the British Chevening Scholarships Programme. Charlie Walker, Acting Director of the British Council in Pakistan, was also present.
Mr Evans presented congratulatory letters to 23 successful scholars from Islamabad, Peshawar, the Northern Areas, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The scholars earlier attended a pre-departure briefing given by the British Council staff. The staff helped to answer, queries on issues such as acquiring health insurance and finding the right accommodation. A documentary on the Chevening scholarship programme worldwide was also shown.
The programme is funded by the foreign and Commonwealth Office and managed by the British High Commission and the British Council. Successful candidates qualify for one year’s postgraduate study in a variety of subjects such as management, media studies, development studies and human rights.
This year 47 scholars are leaving for the UK in September to begin their studies.
