SANGHAR, Aug 16: A complete strike was observed in Tando Adam on Friday against the attack on the taluka Nazim and registration of a robbery case against the Nazim, councillors and municipal staff by the Tando Adam police.
The shops, business centres and markets were remained closed.
A rally was also organised, which started from the office of the taluka Nazim and after marching through various roads ended at the Mohammadi Chowk.
The former MNA, Fida Hussain Dero, Mukhtar Shoro, Nazims of union councils and councillors with hundreds of protestors were also present.
According to information, the taluka council had imposed the road tax on private buses, wagons and other vehicles. On Thursday, the municipal officials went to collect the tax, but some of the bus owners refused to pay the tax.
Taluka Nazim Lala Ayub Pathan with taluka councillors met the transporters to persuade them pay the tax, but the driver of a wagon (PE-083), Ishaq Brohi, cleaner Sajid Brohi and their accomplices, attacked them with iron rods and sticks and wounded the PA to the taluka Nazim, Habib Khan.
Later, the driver and cleaner were handed over to the police.
Councillors, Allah Bux and Nabi Bux, tried to pacify the the situation. During the negotiations, a group of 15 people of the Brohi clan attacked the municipal staff at Mohammadi Chowk and when the taluka Nazim reached there, he was again attacked.
Union councils’ Nazims, Fida Hussain Dero, Aziz Ghouri, Malik Zulfiqar and Sarwar Ahsan, the general secretary of PPP, Sanghar, Hanif Waryah, councillors and others have lodged an FIR with the Tando Adam police.
On Friday, the people were agitated, when they came to know that the police had registered a case against Taluka Nazim Lala Ayub, Liaquat Shaikh, Abdul Rehman Ansari, Altaf Memon, Mohammad Ali Behan and other elected representatives.
Early on Friday, the police tried to arrest them, which infuriated the people, a strike call was given, which was responded and a total strike was observed in the city.
The taluka Nazim belongs to Awam Dost Panel and he has always been complaining about the behaviour of the district Nazim, who belongs to the Faqir Dost Panel.
