KARACHI, Aug 16: The Chief Controller of Buildings (CCOB), Karachi Building Control Authority, Brig (Retd) A.S. Nasir, on Thursday spelled out his plans for carrying out organized planning of Karachi to rid the city from haphazard constructions.

Chairing a meeting with the representatives of ABAD, Pakistan Engineering Council and Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners, the CCOB said that architects and engineers would have to fulfil their responsibilities in this respect.

He assured them of his full cooperation for solving the problems being faced by them.

ABAD chairman Hafizur Rehman Butt stressed the need for regular updating of master plan and building bylaws and highlighted the necessity of gearing up the working of the committee set up for removal of drawbacks in the bylaws.

Aftab Ahmed Khan, a noted town-planner said that master plan could not be implemented because of non-existence of the competent authority.

It was stated in the meeting that there was a need to do away with the multiple licensing system.—APP
