ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: Ambassador of Romania Emil Ghituloscu has expressed the hope that relations between Pakistan and his country will remain strong and responsive to the economic and social realities in this age of globalization.
Mr Ghituloscu was delivering a lecture on “Romania in Europe and in the world”, jointly organized by the Alliance Francaise and the Romanian embassy here on Wednesday.
The ambassador invited the people to visit Romania, saying Romanians have old traditions of offering bread and salt to their guests, which is a symbol of their hospitality and generosity.
He dilated at length on the geo-political situation of his country. He said Romania had always remained a meeting point of political and territorial interests for the foreign countries due to its geographical importance. That was the reason big empires like Romans, Ottomans, Austro-Hungarian and Russians all tried to conquer it, but no one could subdue this great nation.
He said Romanians always stood against foreign aggressors and preserved their distinct cultural heritage and traditions despite all odds.
The ambassador said Romania shared a very chequered history, but eventually what was right and good prevailed in the culture and civilization. There was complete unison and harmony in its history, geography and culture, he added.
Talking about his country’s relations with Pakistan, he said Romania, as Pakistan, had shown proofs of its endurance and courage in times of trial and peril. He said Romania had been assisting Pakistan in various projects, including Kohat, Lasbela, Saadi-1, Saadi-II and Pakland-II cement plants. Similarly, cooperation between Romanian Universal Tractor, Brasov, and GMT Tractors, Karachi, had resulted in the operation of a tractor assembly line in private sector in Pakistan, he added.
The ambassador said Romania had been making great and valiant efforts to become a modern state with strong economy.
He also identified few similarities in rich cultures of the two countries. He referred to Kafir Kalash area of Pakistan with its Aryan features and tribes of Mongolia having links with invasion of Alexander the Great in 327 B.C.
The ambassador gave historical background of his country and talked about various phases in the development of his country’s relations with Pakistan. He said his country wanted stronger ties with Pakistan and there were so many other areas where both the countries could expand bilateral relations.
