BADIN, Aug 15: Four people were killed and 22 others were injured when a pickup (KM-0219) rammed into the parapet of the Mirwah Canal Bridge in Badin on Thursday.
The pickup was returning from Thatta when it rammed into the parapet of the bridge as a result of which four people fell into the Mirwah Canal and died on the spot. They were Wali Mohammed Leghari, Dhani Bux, Ali Nawaz Leghari, and Preen Kumbhar.
The remaining 22 were injured, three of them seriously.
Liaquat, Moosa, and M. Hakeem, who were seriously injured, were taken to the Hyderabad Civil Hospital. The others were taken to the Badin Civil Hospital.
The Badin police registered a case and arrested the injured driver, Tariq.
Our correspondent from Thatta reports: Three picnickers were killed and six others were injured, two of them critically, when the Datsun pickup they were travelling in turned turtle on Thatta-Sujawal Bridge at Damdamo point on Wednesday.
The Sujawal-bound Datsun pickup, coming from Keenjhar Lake, turned turtle as its driver, Ashraf Gaho, who was reportedly drunk, lost and the control of the vehicle on the bridge. Rafique Samejo and Noor Mohammad Khore died on the spot while another critically injured died on his way to the Thatta Hospital.
Ibrahim Sarwan, Abdullah Korijo, Aftab, Zahid Bhan, Shahid Bhan and Aslam Bhan were injured in the accident.
Police registered a case.
REPORT: The Sindh Governor has sought a report on bartering of two underaged girls to save a convict from going to gallows, Dawn learnt reliably.
Responding to a letter of Diana Hopkinson from Australia on July 18, on the subject, the Sindh governor directed the district police officer, Thatta, Nathar Khoso, to furnish the report without any delay.
On June 16 a Jirga settled a murder case in Jhok Sharif by penalizing the guilty party to wed two minor girls to the deceased’s father and his son.
Hanif Jatoi and Noor Mohammad Jatoi had axed to death Mohammad Juman Jatoi and were proved guilty in the Jirga. The Jirga had decided to wed an 11-year-old daughter of the convict Hanif to Khamiso Jatoi, 46, father of the deceased, and a six-year-old daughter of the convict Noor Mohammad to Javed Jatoi, 8, brother of the deceased, as compensation.
