DADU, Aug 15: A large number of the growers of Johi taluka staged a demonstration here on Thursday against artificial water shortage in Dara, Lakha, Chhinni and Chejani waterways, originating from Johi Branch.
Led by Mohammad Shaban Channa and others, the protesters were carrying banners and placards and raising slogans against the area officials of the Irrigation Department.
Talking to newsmen on this occasion, Channa alleged that the Irrigation officials of taluka Johi had sold water share of the growers of Chhini, Dara, Lakha and Chejani waterways to influential landlords, which had badly affected cotton and paddy crops in the area.
He said that he had 3,000 acres of land but could have managed to get only 100 acres of land cultivated and that too through a tubewell.
He said that about 5,000 acres of land remained uncultivated in some parts of Johi taluka during the current season due to water shortage.
