PESHAWAR, Nov 7: An accountability court here on Wednesday convicted a former Naib Tehsildar of revenue department, NWFP, Mosam Khan and sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment along with fine of Rs5.37 million.

The court presided over by Attaullah Khan also ordered forfeiture of his Hujra and house situated here at Khazana area. The presiding officer observed that the prosecution has proved its case against the accused, charged of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The convict was arrested last year on Nov 23 on the directives of National Accountability Bureau. In the reference the convict was charged of possessing assets to the tune of Rs17.91m.

According to the Regional Accountability Bureau the convict possessed land worth Rs10.578m, cost of construction of his Hujra and houses were Rs6.527m and had vehicles worth Rs0.575m.

He was accused of possessing dug wells worth Rs0.149 million and arms ammunitions of Rs83,000.

The convict was inducted as patwari in 1962 and retired on June 28, 1998 after attaining superannuation.

The Regional Accountability Bureau had claimed that during his service he indulged in corruption and corrupt practices.

Four cases were registered against him vide FIR number 19, 20, 21 and 22 at police station anti-corruption establishment for the allegation of fraudulent transfer of property belonging to Malik Jehangir’s family but being very influential, he managed to cancel those cases with the help of the then minister of anti-corruption, NWFP within one month of its registration.

The convict is also co-accused in another reference filed against former tribal senator, Haji Gulsher, in the famous Ring Road land scam.

He was charged of attesting the mutation in respect of the property of Ring Road belonging to Haji Gulsher’s family in which he enhanced the rate of the property to be purchased by the government.

This caused a loss of Rs310 million to the government exchequer.
