PESHAWAR, Aug 15: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the constitutional package announced by President Gen Pervez Musharraf will pave way for the restoration of a “real” democratic system.
Addressing the flag-hoisting ceremony at Jinnah Park on the Independence Day, he said on this historic day last year the local governments were installed which, he added, had proved to be a silent revolution in the country.
Referring to terrorism, he said Pakistanis were the claimants of peace and there never existed any room for terrorism in their religion, and added this was the reason that Pakistan had supported the international war against terrorism.
He said the freedom was an unprecedented blessing of the nature and its value could only be judged by those who were deprived of it, adding that we have got it because of the great sacrifices offered by our forefathers. “We have not only to maintain the freedom but also consolidate and strengthen it,” he said.
Earlier, the district Nazim, Azam Afridi, presented address of welcome, and the Nazim of Town-I, Haroon Bilour, presented the vote of thank.
