PESHAWAR, Aug 15: On the directives of Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, the Lakki Marwat police have arrested three members of a Jirga, including a town Naib Nazim, on whose order an accused of sexual assault was subjected to the same offence by the victim.

The station house officer (SHO) of Lakki Marwat police station appeared before the chief justice with the record and stated that three Jirga members — Town Naib Nazim Habibur Rehman, Sahib Jan and Mohammad Adam — had been arrested search for five other accused was under way.

The chief justice directed him to appear on Aug 22 and inform him about the progress in the case.

The SHO said an FIR had been registered on the order of the chief justice against the Jirga members under Sections 377/201/114 of the Pakistan Penal Code on Aug 13. The police had arrested four persons.

The chief justice had taken suo motu notice of the incident and summoned the SHO on Saturday.

Justice Shakirullah had directed the SHO not to spare any person involved. He had also expressed displeasure over no action having been taken against the Jirga members.

On Aug 8, the Lakki Marwat police station registered an FIR stating that two weeks back Jamshed, Shahjehan and Asmatullah committed unnatural act with Irfanullah at Zanghikhel village. On the complaint of Saadullah, father of irfanullah, a Jirga of an Islahi committee allowed the victim to take revenge from Jamshed in the same manner.

Jamshed was criminally assaulted by Irfanullah following the verdict.

When the SHO came to know about the incident, he registered the FIR on his own behalf as nobody had approached the police.  

Jamshed has reportedly left the village and is hiding in Punjab.   The police initially arrested Irfanullah, Saadullah, Shahjehan and Asmatullah.

On the directives of the high court, the police registered another FIR and arrested three Jirga members, bringing the number of arrested persons to seven.
