The number of passengers could not be ascertained so far, police said. However, it was learnt that a couple was in the car when the vehicle was washed away.

Quoting eye-witnesses, the police said a Suzuki car (IDL- 6319), in which a couple was travelling, tried to cross a drain when all of a sudden strong water waves swept away the car.

Police said nobody came to the police station to report about the missing persons.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man drowned in a drain in Rawal Town on Tuesday, police and eye-witnesses said.

In another incident, three persons, including two brothers, were wounded critically after the roof of their mud house collapsed due to rain in Golra area on Tuesday, hospital and police sources said.

Bahar Ali and Bagh Ali, the two brothers, and their relative Shajar Hussain were sitting in the room when its roof caved in.

They were pulled out by the rescuers and shifted to hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.

Our Staff Reporter adds: The continued rains on Tuesday morning caused medium level floods in Nullah Leh due to which a man died.

The 55mm rain received here increased the water level in Leh to 19.5 feet.

The civil defence personnel blared sirens when the water level in Leh reached to 16 feet at 8.15am. After reaching at 19.5 feet mark, it began receding.

Usually, water from the main Nullah Leh enters the surrounding localities after reaching 24 feet mark. There were reports from Millat Colony and some adjacent areas of inundation because of heavy rains, but it had been caused by the overflow of Leh tributaries. However, the civil defence personnel brought the boats at Nadeem Colony, but they did not use them, as the water did not enter the residential areas. A milkman, whose identity could not be ascertained, was drowned in the flood at Hazara Colony. Though, nets were set up near Lahore High Court building, his body could not be found till the filing of this report. Meanwhile, the district administration has appealed to the people to shift to safer places.

Later, chairing a meeting at Rawalpindi Development Authority, the district Nazim directed the Water and Sanitation Agency to set up Emergency Flood Cell. He also directed the civic agencies to desilt the Nullah Leh and remove the logs from there.

Our Reporter adds: Water level of three dams of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have risen from five to eight feet following the torrential rains during the last 24 hours, sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

The sources claimed that there would be no shortage of water in the twin cities after the current spell of rains.

An official of Capital Development Authority (CDA) said water level at Simly had increased to eight feet due to heavy rains in its catchment areas. The water level at the dam had dropped to critical level because of the dry spell.

The water level recorded at Simly Dam on Tuesday was 2,256.90 feet which was 2,248 feet on August 10. Simly Dam is one of the major sources of water supply to Islamabad.

In normal days the CDA supplies 67.80mgd in Islamabad against the requirement of 60mgd, which shows that the CDA supplies 100 gallon per capita water. According to the international standards, per capita requirement of water is 40 gallons.

The authority had appealed to the citizens not to waste water and avoid frequent car washing so that water reserves could be supplied on daily basis.
