TAXILA, Aug 12: The death toll in the terrorist attack on the Protestant chapel in the vicinity of the Christian Hospital, Taxila on Friday, has risen to six with the death of another injured nurse on Monday.
Ms Sanam died of her injuries at PIMS hospital, Islamabad. Perveen Nelson, who was shifted to POF hospital Wah Cantt in critical condition died after being operated on Sunday.
The other injured nurse, Ms Zakia Patrick, who was shifted to POF hospital Taxila, is still in critical condition, doctors stated.
The body of Ms Sanam was shifted to her native town Lahore where her memorial services will be performed and buried there.
Perveen Nelson, was buried at Taxila where a large number of hospital staff, her colleagues and local Christian community attend her last services.
The working at the Christian Hospital has started after closure of OPD for three days. A little number of patients attending the hospital amid fear after the grenade attack on the chapel.
Despite heavy security steps the staff of the hospital is still in a state of shock and fear as they have lost three of their colleagues and some of their comrades are still fighting for their lives in the Christian Hospital Taxila and POF Hospital, Wah Cantt.
Those families living in the staff colony in the premises of the Christian Hospital have still not forgotten the tragedy.
A nurse Ms Samuel told Dawn that she feels that everything has changed over night. “The hospital is there, the chapel is there, the patients are there but still I fell that some thing has changed. She is missing her four colleague nurses, four precious human lives, who served the ailing humanity specially eye patients and sacrificed their lives.”
Meanwhile the police claimed to have arrested two alleged terrorists involved in the grenade attack on the chapel.
According to the police sources two terrorists, whose names were not disclosed, were arrested near Kalabagh checkpost in Mianwali district on their way to Lahore.
The police sources said that they belonged to Lahore.
The police have also arrested more people of a banned militant organization from various places. The number of the suspects arrested so far has risen to 13.
They were shifted to Rawalpindi where during preliminary investigations they have admitted to have been involved in the terrorist attack on the chapel.
However, the police did not confirm nor deny that the FBI officials are also interrogating the arrested terrorists.
The security around Taxila Museum, historical sites and Gurdwara Punja Sahib, Hassanabdal, has also been tightened.
Meanwhile the SSP, Rawalpindi, Marwat Shah, has suspended two more officials of Taxila police. Sub-inspector Zulfiqar, in- charge of City police station and sub-inspector Jameel, in-charge of Taxila police station were suspended for negligence.
It may be mentioned here that the SP, Saddar and security Tahir, DSP Sikandar Khan, Taxila SHO Malik Arshad and constable Aslam Khan has already being suspended after the incident.
