KARACHI, Aug 12: The term of the president Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) as well as the managing committee, has been proposed for two years, which would enable the president to have more time in planning and executing its policies along with the members of the managing committee.

This was stated by the President KCCI, Haroon Bari while referring to one of the salient features of the proposed amendments in KCCI memorandum and articles of association.

He said that these amendments have already been adopted unanimously by the Managing Committee composed of both the Groups of the Chamber. An extraordinary meeting of the general body is being held on Aug 17 for the adoption of the proposed amendments.

He said that the reduction in the tenure of managing committee from three years to two years, would ensure the entry of fresh blood with new ideas and commitment for work and service.

Bari pointed out that another redeeming feature of the proposed amendments is addition of a new provision whereby Associations/Groups on market-level, would be enrolled as delegate-member. “This would enable them to have the support of the Chamber in their collective and pressing issues,” he added.

He said that in addition to these major changes, there are some other important amendments, which have been made to strengthen the Chamber, as an institution.

“A president directly elected from the general body instead the managing committee, being its electoral college, would have more confidence and his office would enjoy more credibility,” he argued.
