QUETTA, Aug 10: Two vehicles were set on fire by unknown people during a wheel jam strike observed at the highways linking Balochistan with Karachi and other parts of the country, on the call of the Balochistan National Party, on Saturday.

The BNP had given a strike call against the government for not arresting the accused nominated in the FIR for killing of senior BNP leader Mir Mohammad Aslam Gichki.

The angry mob attacked the two vehicles between Wadh and Khuzdar and destroyed them completely.

Police arrested at least 60 workers and leaders of the BNP during the strike from different areas of the province.

Vehicular traffic remained suspended between Quetta and Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan and other cities.

BNP workers and supporters blocked the highway linking Quetta with Karachi near Mastung putting barricades and did not allow any transport to come on the road.

Reports from Khuzdar, Dera Murad Jamali, Sibi, Bela, Hub and Kuchlak stated that roads were blocked and traffic suspended.

However, police removed barricades near Dera Murad Jamali dispersing the people and restored the traffic between Quetta and Sukkur.

At Kuchlak police used baton-charge and injured three workers of the party.

In Quetta, all bazaars remained open and transport plied normally.

SPOKESMAN: A spokesman for the home department said the strike had remained ineffective and people had given no heed to it.

The Spokesman said some elements tried to block traffic forcibly in Mastung, Khuzdar, Dera Murad Jamali, Noshki and Kalat, but police foiled their attempt and arrested around 50 miscreants.

However, traffic remained suspended in Wadh, he said. He said some miscreants burnt down two vehicles near Wadh.
