LAHORE, Aug 10: A Hamdard University spokesman has said the university was authorized to open its sub-campuses all over the country.
Responding to a notice issued by the Punjab University that the sub-campus opened in Faisalabad was illegal, the spokesman said the University Grants Commission (UGC), in its handbook ‘Universities of Pakistan 1998’, had documented that the territorial jurisdiction of the university would be “whole of Pakistan”. He said the Hamdard University had been granted charter by the Sindh government in 1991.
The spokesman said the Hamdard University sub-campus, Faisalabad, was strongly recommended by the Punjab education department committee and the Punjab University affiliation committee.
Similarly, an Iqra University spokesman said the university was granted charter by the Sindh government some two years back and was recognized by the UGC.
He said the UGC had also issued an NoC to the Iqra University sub-campus in Lahore on Dec 18, 2000. He said the sub-campus had also applied for an NoC from the Punjab government. —Reporter
