KARACHI, Aug 10: Justice Shabbir Ahmed of the High Court of Sindh, who is also the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts at Karachi, gave on Saturday the last chance to the Capital City Police to submit chargesheet against Shaikh Mohammed Ahmed alias Danial, Mohammed Hanif and Mohammed Imran of the Harkatul Mujahideen Al Aalmi.
Earlier, the three accused were produced in the court amid strict security. Police sought further extension of time to submit the chargesheet against the accused in five cases of bomb blasts in Karachi.
The cases pertain to bomb explosions at the parking lot of Marina Club (PS Gizri), McDonald Restaurant (PS Darakhshan), Jamaatkhana (PS Pirabad), KFC Restaurant (PS Gulshan-i-Iqbal) and grenade attack on a police mobile (PS Supermarket, Liaquatabad).
The AJ directed the investigation officers to submit the final chargesheet by Aug 15.
akram lahori: Charges against alleged activists of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Ajmal alias Akram Lahori, Azam alias Sharif, Ata alias Qasim and Tasadduq, could not be framed on Saturday in the anti-terrorism court-3.
As the accused could not hire any advocate to appear on their behalf, the court adjourned the hearing of the case to Aug 15.
Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 offered them state counsel for their legal help without any fee, but the accused declined the offer, saying they would engage their own counsel.
WARRANTS ISSUED: A court issued on Saturday arrest warrants for six fugitives suspected of being involved in a car bomb attack on the US consulate in Karachi that killed 12 people and injured 20 others, defence lawyers said.
Three leading suspects in the attack — Mohammed Imran, Mohammed Hanif and Mohammed Ashraf — have already been arrested and appeared in an anti-terrorism court amid tight security on Saturday.
The main suspects and an inspector of the Pakistan Rangers, Waseem Akhtar, have been charged with both the June 14 bombing and the conspiracy to kill President Pervez Musharraf.
“The court today issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of six other people who are absconders in the case,” Raza Abidi, a defence lawyer for Imran, told reporters.
He said the court had set Aug 16 as the date for the next preliminary hearing.
