HYDERABAD, Aug 7: T Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) here on Tuesday decided to launch a protest movement throughout the province if problems of teachers and students were not resolved by Aug 24.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the SPLA committee, held at the Sachal Sarmast Arts and Commerce College.

Speaking at the meeting, Kazi Sirajuddin, who presided over the meeting, Prof Liaquat Aziz, Prof Aziz Ujjan, Agha Khalid, Syed Ali Akbar Shah and others criticized the inordinate delay in the issuance of notification in respect of promotions and move-over cases of college teachers.

They regretted that computer fee was being charged from students at Rs1,000 per annum in the interior of Sindh, terming it a conspiracy to deprive students of their right to education. They said the computer fee should be charged at Rs30 per month.

They said as examinations of only first year students would be held in March 2003, there was no justification to charge fees from second year students at this stage.

They also criticized the inordinate increase in fees, announced by education boards and the University of Sindh, Jamshoro.

They appealed to Sindh Chief Secretary K.B. Rind to resolve problems of college teachers and students in the larger interest of education and academic peace.
