QUETTA, Aug 4: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) is scheduled to launch Boeing flights from Gwadar and Turbat with the completion of expansion work and repair of these airports.
Balochistan PIA General Manager Salman Javaid said this while briefing provincial governor Amirul Mulk Mengal about the performance and future plans of the national flag carrier, here during a meeting with him the other day.
He informed the governor that the PIA had a plan to introduce flights for Quetta and other areas from other cities of the country under the new schedule and soon a decision was expected in this regard.
He said the PIA had started operating Airbus on Quetta, Karachi, and Islamabad Sector replacing Boeing 737. Flights, he said, had also been increased for the Quetta-Lahore Sector, making them available at every alternate day. The PIA was making all possible efforts to provide maximum facilities to the people of Balochistan.
The general manager said the flag carrier was already offering special concessions in fares to the passengers travelling on the Quetta-Makran Sector. The people travelling on the Quetta-Karachi-Dubai Sector were paying Rs9,170 per ticket while special concession — Rs7,140 per return ticket— was being offered on the Makran-Dubai Sector.
He informed the governor that fare for up to 500-kg vegetable for the Quetta-Lahore Sector had been fixed at Rs5 per kg, resulting that vegetables were being airlifted on every Lahore-bound flight.
