KARACHI, Aug 4: A sum of Rs4 million has been released for purchase of surgical instruments and other requirements for the new operation theatre (OT) of orthopaedic department at the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), Sindh Health Minister Ahsan Ahmed said.
Presiding over a meeting on Saturday, which was attended by health secretary Khalid Latif Choudhry, Prof Younus Soomro, head of the orthopaedic department and other medical officers, he expressed satisfaction over the completion of the structure of the new OT.
Prof Soomro earlier briefing the minister said the new OT had been established at a cost of Rs30 million out of which Rs15 million would be spent on purchase of new and latest equipment and surgical instruments.
He said the new OT was needed as approximately 4,000 patients were operated upon in the orthopaedic department of the hospital.
The people of Sindh and Balochistan will equally benefit from the extension and expanded facilities, the minister was informed. More operations will be conducted in less time, it was added.—APP
