RAWALPINDI, Aug 1: The senior vice-president of PML-Q, Ijazul Haq, has alleged that conspiracies are being hatched by some elements to sabotage the intra-party elections to the slot of president.
“The Muslim League House in Islamabad is being used for spreading disinformation, which is harmful for the party and can disturb the democratic process of intra-party elections,” Mr Haq, who is contesting for the office of party president, said at a press conference on Thursday.
To a question, he said he would not withdraw his candidature at all. He said the ongoing conspiracies would not result in the further split of the party, but could vitiate the democratic process the PML had adopted.
Mr Haq said he had asked the party secretary-general, Col Ghulam Sarwar Cheema (retired) to provide him the list of party council members by the evening of July 31, but he did not receive the complete list. “I received the lists of members from Sindh and the NWFP, but these are also incomplete. The lists regarding Punjab, Balochistan, Fata and Islamabad have not been sent so far,” he said.
He demanded that a committee should be formed to probe these lapses. He warned that he would directly contact the voters to elect an honest and democratic leader, if such conspiracies were not stopped.
The PML leader alleged that the Muslim League House sent wrong information to a news agency that the senior party leaders and the provincial chiefs had supported Mian Azhar’s candidature for presidentship.
