MUZAFFARABAD, July 31: Three more people were killed and four others wounded in the Indian shelling on Neelum valley, officials said here on Wednesday.

They said the shelling, which started on Tuesday night, claimed the life a man in Kel in the upper belt of Neelum Valley. The name of the deceased could not be ascertained.

Three people were also injured in the same area who were taken to Muzaffarabad through an army helicopter on Wednesday. A jeep came under attack on Tuesday on Karen bypass, in the upper belt of the valley, resulting in the injuries to its driver Abdur Rashid.

Shelling resumed in Kel sector on Wednesday and continued throughout the day, but no loss of life was reported from there, a military official said, adding Pakistani troops returned fire.

However, Superintendent of Police Raja Ghulam Sarwar told Dawn that two people, driver and conductor of a truck, were killed when the Indian troops opened fire on the loaded vehicle at about 4pm on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Yasin, 40, (driver), and Ghulam Nabi, 21, (conductor) son of Khani Zaman. Both of them were the residents of Islampura village of valley.

The SP said the Indians troops were targeting every vehicle plying on Karen bypass. The main Neelum valley road from Noseri upward has already been closed due to shelling from across the LoC.

The Kel sector has been under intense fire since Monday, and Wednesday’s casualties have taken the toll in that area in three days to five. Another person was killed in Samahni sector of the southernmost Bhimbher district on Tuesday.
