GUJRANWALA, July 31: Three farmers were shot dead on Wednesday by their rivals to settle old score in Naushera Virkan.
Shahbaz, Tariq and Muhammad Akhter were asleep at their outhouse near Yapeeh Sapra village when eight assailants came there and sprayed a volley of bullets on them. They escaped after killing them on the spot.
Deceased Shahbaz’s brother, Muhammad Fazal, was also shot dead by his rivals some two months ago when he was asleep at his outhouse. Police have removed the bodies to the local DHQ Hospital for autopsy.
A case has been registered against the accused.
CONDEMNED DAY: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) and other organizations of teachers observed ‘condemned day’ here on Wednesday.
They protested the manhandling and humiliation of teachers by police in Lahore during their protest against the denationalization of schools. They demanded that police officials involved in beating the teachers should be suspended from service instantly.
At a meeting presided over by PPLA president Prof Mahboob Ahmad, the participants said the baton-charge and dragging of teachers, including women, on the road were the shameful acts.
The meeting pledged that teachers would continue their protest strike against the denationalization of schools till the withdrawal of the ordinance.
Meanwhile, the PPLA and other organizations announced that they would hold a protest meeting at the Government Higher Secondary School on Thursday (today) to decide the future course of action. Later, a protest rally would be held on the GT Road against the denationalization policy.
MINOR BOY CRUSHED: A minor boy was crushed to death on Wednesday by a wagon on the Sheikhupura Road near Tetley village.
Imran was crossing the road when the wagon at high speed crushed him. He died on the spot.
Police have arrested the driver and registered a case against him.
PROTESTED: The heirs of slain wagon driver demonstrated outside the SSP office on Wednesday and demanded that killer(s) should be arrested immediately.
The protesters, including women, carrying banners and placards were chanting slogans against the two SHOs. They claimed that one of the assailants who killed driver Muhammad Naveed was identified by the conductor. But SHOs of Kamoki and Wahando were patronizing the assailants for they had refused to register a murder case against them. They asked the police high-ups to suspend from service both SHOs. Later, the demonstrators dispersed peacefully when a senior police officer assured them to bring the accused to justice.
KILLS BROTHER: A man stabbed his brother on Wednesday over a petty issue in Bhri Shah Rehman.
Muhammad Mansha and Sanaullah had quarrelled with each other, but the matter was settled by the family members. Later, Sanaullah attacked Mansha with a knife and escaped after killing him on the spot.
Kot Ladha police have registered a case and are investigating.
