HYDERABAD, July 30: The growers of Jam Shakh, which is fed by the Rohri canal, blocked the Ghulam Hussain Joyo-Matiari road (Tando Jam) and burnt tyres to protest against the acute shortage of irrigation water in the Jam Shakh.

They raised slogans against the officials of the irrigation department.

A grower, Achar Khaskheli, also tried to set himself ablaze but he was saved by the other growers.

Talking to newsmen, the growers said that even though enough water was available in the Indus River, yet irrigation water was not being released in the Jam Shakh as a result of which their crops were being destroyed.

They threatened to observe hunger strike if water was not released soon in the Jam Shakh.
