Police delays gang-rape FIR for 21 days

SAHIWAL, July 29: Police delayed registration of a gang- rape case for 21 days because the accused were sons of influential landlords of area, the father of the victims told Dawn on Monday.

Ghaziabad police have yet to arrest the four accused, the resident of Chak No 147/9-L said.

He said that his two daughters went to the clinic of Dr Faqir Hussain on the evening of July 7. The girls were returning to their home when Arshad, Haider, Pappu and Rana Jat abducted the girls and took them to their outhouse and gang-raped them.

Despite the hue and cry raised by the girls, no villager dared to help them because the accused continued firing with Kalashnikovs.

The father of the girls said he works as a labourer in Jhang and returned to Sahiwal when came to know about the incident. The police registered the case on July 28, he said.
