Pakistan to export trucks to Bangladesh

KARACHI, July 26: A Pakistani truck assembling company Adam Motor Co Ltd will export 200 to 300 locally assembled trucks to Bangladesh.

This was stated by the managing director of the company Sohail Ahmed during a visit by Commerce Minister Abdul Razak Dawood to witness and inspect locally assembled truck “zabardast” powered with 2600cc diesel engine here on Friday.

He said that initially two truck are exported to the distributor of the company in Bangladesh for trial. Afterward 20 more trucks will be shipped in the form of completely built unit (CBU).

He said later on his company will set up a plant in Bangladesh to assemble this truck to compete in the local market, which is currently dominated by India.

Sohail Ahmed said that his company has invested Rs100 million, having a foreign exchange component of 25 per cent in the manufacturing of “zabardast” with the technical collaboration of Chinese automobile maker Jiangsu Mudan Automobile Group. Adam Motors had begun production in March 2001.

“We are the market leader in Pakistan and has sold 350 trucks and delivering at a rate of 120 trucks per month,” he said.

He pointed out that local component level is about 47 per cent in the truck while its export price is $5,800 per unit. Its local price is Rs485,000 per unit.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that transfer of technology to Bangladesh will further improve bilateral relations.—APP
