KARACHI, July 23: Police shot dead a suspected bandit in Nazimabad police limits on Tuesday, in what they claimed an encounter.
On Monday, police shot dead four bandits in Federal B-Area, in what they claimed in a shootout.
On Tuesday, three bandits entered Zafar Iqbal’s house in North Nazimabad’s Block-B, collected cash and valuables and shot and wounded Zafar when he put up resistance to them, police said.
Neighbours saw the bandits coming out of Zafar’s house and they chased them. One of the three bandits entered a house in Mujahid Colony in Nazimabad police limits where people informed police on phone No 15, Madadgar. Two of his accomplices, however, ran away.
Police reached the spot and ordered the suspected bandit to surrender to them. But he opened fire at police in an attempt to escape. Police returned the fire and the bullets hit the alleged bandit, who was seriously injured. He was taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
IG Sindh Syed Kamal Shah praised people for extending help to police and announced commendation certificates for the policemen who tackled the alleged bandit.
Police recovered a TT pistol from the possession of the dead bandit. Police sent the bandit’s body to the Edhi’s morgue.
Four suspected bandits who were shot dead in Samanabad on Monday were identified on Tuesday as Bakht Wali, Hameedullah, Alam Khan, and Saif Akbar, all residents of Kyani Colony, Manghopir. The were wanted in several criminal cases, police said.
DIES: An official of the Inter-Services Intelligence, Javed Khan, who was shot and wounded in Defence Housing Authority on Sunday night, died at PN Shifa on Monday evening.
A case was registered at Defence police station.
A senior police officer said: “Javed Khan was seriously injured by car hijackers when he had put up resistance to them who had tried to hijack his car.”
As Javed belonged to the ISI, the FIR had been sealed and secret investigations were being conducted to ascertain if there was any other motive for the killing and to find a clue to the killers, he added.
CARJACKING: Twenty-three vehicles — 10 cars and 13 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police sources said.
Four cars were hijacked and six others stolen in various localities, including Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Saddar, Clifton, Defence Housing Authority, etc.
Five motorcycles were hijacked and eight others stolen in several areas of the city, including New Karachi, Gulberg, Kharadar, Soldier Bazaar, Saddar, etc.
ARRESTS: Police foiled a car hijacking attempt and arrested two bandits following the recovery of a hijacked car and a TT pistol in Ferozabad.
Police said three bandits hijacked a Santro car (ACX-574) from Ashfaq Husain in Ferozabad and made him hostage at gunpoint. They took him near Mehfil-i-Murtaza, dropped him there and sped away in his car. He informed two head constables, patrolling on motorcycle in the area, of the hijacking of his car. The policemen chased the car. The bandits abandoned the car and attempted to run away. Police arrested one of the suspects, and recovered a TT pistol from him. The arrested bandit told police his name was Ashraf Chandio.
The Soldier Bazaar police arrested Arshad, Ramazan and Rizwan following the recovery of 4.5kg charas.
