LAHORE, July 22: The University Grants Commission in collaboration with the Government College, Lahore, geography department launched on Monday a six-day refresher course for in-service college teachers of degree colleges in the Punjab.
Some 22 college teachers from Lahore and eight teachers from Gojra, Gujranwala, Jaranwala, Faisalabad, Chiniot and Jhang were attending the course.
Ms Shamim Shami from the training division of the UGC, Islamabad, was conducting the course while Prof Khadim Ali Khan from GC was acting as course coordinator.
Presiding over the inaugural session, PU geography department’s Prof Dr Marium Karam Elahi said the standard of teaching of geography in Pakistan was far behind as compared to the other developed countries. She stressed that the geography teachers must teach geography with the help of audio-visual aids or at least a map.
She also urged the course participants to get maximum knowledge from the training course and transfer it to their students and colleagues.
