PESHAWAR, July 22: District Nazim of Malakand, Engineer Mohammad Hamayun Khan, on Monday presented Rs 530 million surplus budget for the year 2002-2003 in the District Council. No new tax has been levied in the budget.

The Nazim, giving details of the last year expenditure, said in both the development and non-development sectors, a total of about Rs 60 million and Rs 440 million respectively had been made.

Regarding development schemes, the Nazim told the Council that a large number of schemes were completed in the district under different sectors while work on some schemes was going on.

He said the incomplete schemes would be completed during the current year. He said the provincial government had also planned to launch certain new schemes in the district during the current year for which a sum of Rs 20 million had been allocated.

Engineer Mohammad Hamayun Khan further disclosed that under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) many projects had been planned to be initiated in the district including upgradation of girls middle school Kharkai, establishment of Malakand Public School, setting up of two degree colleges (one each for boys and girls) at Batkhela, provision of facilities like computers in colleges at Dargai, establishment of polytechnic institute at Batkhela, construction of students hostel at Agra and development of industrial estate at Malakand.

He said the polytechnic institute alone would be provided Rs 70 million by the provincial government.

In his budget speech, the Nazim announced that like the previous year the people had also been exempted from new taxes in the budget.

He informed the Council members about the total annual income and expenditure in different sectors.—APP
