KARACHI, July 22: Workers of the newspaper industry began a nine-day token hunger strike on Monday evening at Karachi Press Club against, what they termed, the negative attitude of the newspaper owners towards the implementation of the 7th wage award.

The first batch of five workers sat on hunger strike for 24 hours. They will be replaced at 5pm on Tuesday by a second batch. The token hunger strike, planned to mobilize the newspaper workers, will continue till July 31. On a call of the PFUJ and Apnec, a similar strike is also being held at other newspaper centres in the country.

The hunger strike campaign was launched at a meeting jointly organized by the KUJ and Apnec.
