KARACHI, July 21: Sindh Chief Secretary K.B. Rind said on Sunday that the government is committed to ameliorate the lot of the poor through implementation of Khushal Pakistan Programme, poverty alleviation and other welfare projects.

Talking to Fishermen Cooperative Society’s chief Commodore Syed Tayyeb Naqvi at his office, he said the government was providing all possible help through education, health cover, social welfare and Zakat and Ushr departments to all segments of the society, including fishermen.

He stressed the importance of education and a higher literacy rate.

He said the government had launched welfare projects in all areas besides making efforts to bring the backward areas at par with the developed ones. He said the projects aimed at providing civic facilities to the masses without discrimination between urban and rural areas.

He said that under the compulsory primary education law, the government was offering incentives, including provision of textbooks free of cost, Ghee tins and Rs100 cash per month to the girl students, to ensure maximum enrolment in schools. —APP
