SWABI, July 19: The livestock problems were discussed at a meeting of the Citizen Action Committee (CAC) members with the Executive District Officer, Agriculture.

In the whole Swabi district, there were only five women workers to attend to the livestock-related jobs. Funds were also not available for HSV and NDV vaccination, the meeting was told.

Assistant director livestock, Dr Muhammad Ayub, noted that it would be a great achievement if the CAC members, veterinary doctors and assistants of the livestock department joined forces and created awareness among the womenfolk about the importance of developing livestock.

Dr Muhammad Siraj said there were no travelling facilities for female extension workers. They could provide their technical support if the CAC and Aurat Foundation provided them travel and vaccination support.

EDO Agriculture, Abdus Salam, said a family could rear livestock and poultry but they needed to adopt new and improved methods.

He asked the CAC members to form separate committees for livestock, forestry, wildlife and fisheries on village level.
