KARACHI, July 19: Former Haq Parast legislators have condemned Nepra for allowing Wapda to further increase its power tariff and urged President Pervez Musharraf to take notice of this.
They said in a joint statement that the poor of the country had already been suffering under the burden of prices and GST on petrol, diesel, gas, power, medicines and other articles of daily consumption.
The increase of 40 paisa per unit in power rates would only add to their miseries.
KALABAGH DAM: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement coordination committee has expressed concern over the reports that those who are going to be affected by the proposed Kalabagh dam are being allotted lands in District Thatta.
Demanding President Gen Pervez Musharraf to take notice of the allotments, the committee urged that the dam and the greater Thal canal project should be done away with.
The committee said that despite protests from the people of Sindh, the establishment had gone on executing the project and now preparations were afoot to settle the affected people in the coastal area of the Thatta district.
“Earlier the establishment, under a conspiracy, had settled Afghan refugees in Sindh. The work on greater the canal, the dam and other anti-Sindh policies have resulted in unrest among the masses in Sindh. If the present policies of the establishment continue, the consequences will be far from positive,” said the committe.
