KARACHI, July 18: Two suspected bandits were killed in separate shootouts with police in different areas on Thursday.
The police shot dead a suspected robber in Gulshan-i-Jamal and arrested his accomplice while another dacoit escaped.
Police said three robbers entered the house of Asad Raza Kazmi and collected cash and jewellery. As they left the house, the police were informed on Madadgar-15. The police challenged the robbers and arrested one of them, identified as Sajjad Ali with his TT pistol. Two of his accomplices slipped away from the police net.
They were, however, spotted by another police party which signalled them to stop. The dacoits while fleeing fired at the police party. The police returned the fire which resulted in the death of a suspected robber, possessing the looted cash and jewellery. His accomplice, however, ran away. The body was shifted to a hospital where he was identified as Akhtar Ali, 20.
In another incident, a gang of dacoits was looting the occupants of vehicles by erecting barricades on Superhighway near Kathore More when the police reached the spot.
Sensing danger, the dacoits attempted to flee and the police chased them which resulted in a shootout between them. As a result, a suspected dacoit, Mohammad Iqbal Baloch, 20, was killed and his accomplices managed to escape. The police also recovered a shotgun beside the body of the suspected dacoit.
ACCIDENT: An eight-year-old boy died after he was crushed by a vehicle in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
Police said Noor Mohammad was crossing the road when a Suzuki pick-up (PV-2439) hit him. He died before he could be provided medical aid.
In another accident, Punnu Sain, 35, was hit by a trailer near Pipri. The man died on the spot. His body was shifted to JPMC. The police impounded the vehicle and arrested its driver, Ashraf Mir Mohammad.
In yet another incident, Faisal Shakir, 17, was crushed by a train near Drigh Station. Faisal was crossing the tracks when he was hit by the train.
HOLDUPS: Four armed holdups were committed in the different places in the city on Thursday.
Two bandits intercepted Naveed Jaffar in Azizabad at gunpoint and robbed him of Rs3,000 and his belongings.
Two hoodlums raided the shop of Abdur Rehman in Jamshed Quarters area and decamped with cash and belongings at gunpoint.
Six dacoits barged into the house of Ismail Khan in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, held the family hostage at gunpoint, collected cash, foreign currency, jewellery, valuables and fled with the loot.
Two bandits raided a shop of Qurban Ali in Keamari, snatched Rs2,000 and a licensed pistol from him and fled with the loot.
CARJACKING: At least 19 vehicles, four cars and 15 motorcycles, were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday.
A car was hijacked and three others stolen. Eleven motorcycles were hijacked and four others stolen. Police claimed to having recovered a stolen car and three motorbikes.
