WANA, July 16: Speakers at a public meeting held in Makeen, South Waziristan Agency, on Monday demanded of the government to implement the proposed reforms and hold local government elections in the tribal areas without further delay.
The meeting organized by the Jamaat-i-Islami was attended, besides others, by JI leaders Zarnoor Afridi, Haleem Shad, Zafar Khan, and chairman of Tehrik-i-Nowjawanan, SWA.
They said that the implementation of the proposed reforms and the holding of local government elections under the devolution of power plan were a key to the solution of tribesmen’s problems.
They criticized the Frontier Crimes Regulation, saying that the centuries-old colonial system had deprived the common man of the reasonable social life.
Calling for the early implementation of the reforms agenda, the speakers said that the tribal people would not tolerate any interference in the customs and traditions of the area.
Also, they said that the establishment of police stations in the tribal areas would not be allowed.
