He added that since Pakistan was quite ready to meet all the challenges, the enemy had not resorted to aggression.
He said Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be construed as its weakness as it was capable of meeting all the internal and external threats.
The federal minister was inaugurating FM 101 (Frequency Modulation-101) programme of the Radio Pakistan here on Sunday night.
He said the people must know about the history of their country, province and the city otherwise it would create hurdles in the way of development.
Mr Memon said the city of Hyderabad was the citadel of peace and expressed the hope that the youth of the city would prove a bulwark against the hypocrites and would not allow them to come to the fore.
He said the development in the country was only possible if all of the citizens believed in oneness of Pakistan.
He said the economic, social and political development in today’s world greatly depended on print and electronic media and said that for the development of the country, importance must be given to technological development.
The federal minister said FM-101 was basically for the younger generation and reminded the youth that the younger generation had played a dominant role in the creation of the country. He said President Gen Pervez Musharraf had also given great importance to the younger generation which, he said, was evident from the fact that the youth having 18 years of age had been given an opportunity to take part in the political evolution. He expressed the hope that the younger generation would not only concentrate on their education but also help elect fair people and block the way of looters from returning to the power.
He said that through FM-101 the voice of the youth of the country would reach the whole world, including India. He said the youth of India must be told that war was not a solution to the problems.
Mr Memon said the country was in safe hands politically and economically and added that foreign exchange reserves had gone up from $500 million to $7 billion.
Referring to the speech of eminent scholar Dr Nabi Bux Baloch, the federal minister said Hyderabad was more important than Karachi as it had the tradition of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and the Mehran River was flowing through it.
He said he felt very happy to see water in the River Indus and regretted that protest demonstrations were still being held against the shortage of water. He said this was due to the inefficiency of officials of the irrigation department and warned them to mend their ways.
The station director, Malik Azizur Rehman, and the director- general, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, presented traditional Sindhi Ajrak and cap to the chief guest.
