RIYADH, July 12: The prisons department here is working on a scheme to arrange employment outside of the prison walls for prisoners who are currently completing their jail terms.

Modalities for sending out the first batch of such prisoners to work outside the prison and earn their livelihood have been worked out.

As part of the rehabilitation scheme launched by the Prisons Department, under the supervision of the Riyadh Deputy Governor Prince Sattam, the prisoners would be required to return to their cells at the end of the days work at private companies, where they would be trained and employed.

“Prisoners (prisons) in Riyadh are currently getting ready to send out the first batch of prisoners to work in private companies. The private companies will pay them suitable remuneration for their work, so that they can support their families (while in prison). The local Al-Mohaydeb Company for Metal Industries have offered to employ these jail inmates,” Brig-Gen Muhammad Al-Zahrani, the Director of Prisons in Riyadh, was quoted as saying by the local press here.
