GUJRANWALA, July 10: After a detailed survey, the city tehsil council declared 84 buildings as dangerous and issued notices on Wednesday to their owners to get them repaired immediately or face demolition.

At a meeting presided over by city Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad, the issue of dilapidated buildings was taken seriously for this could cause the loss of lives during the monsoon.

Meanwhile, owners of dilapidated buildings said they were already under financial crunch due to current price-hike and were unable to get them repaired even after the monsoon.

DEATH WARRANT: A local court on Wednesday issued death warrant for a condemned prisoner involved in the killing of two brothers and fixed July 25 for his execution.

Muhammad Nawaz had killed Muhammad Afzal and Muhammad Ashfaq over a minor issue during a cricket match on June 6, 1990, in Wazirabad. The additional district and sessions judge had awarded him death sentence on two counts in 1992. The Lahore High Court and Supreme Court upheld the decision of the lower court. The president also rejected his clemency appeal.

REFRESHER COURSE: A month-long refresher course for teachers of elementary schools (boys and girls) has been initiated while the Education department has set up centres at government elementary schools in the district.
