SADIQABAD, July 8: A man sustained bullet wounds on Sunday night in an exchange of fire between dacoits and residents of Chachran Sharif.

The residents however succeeded in catching two dacoits while their two accomplices managed to escape in the dark.

Khadim Niazi spotted four outlaws who were planning to commit dacoity in one of the houses of the Niazi tribe. He awoke other family members, surrounded the dacoits and challenged them. The outlaws opened fire in their bid to escape, but the residents also returned the fire. One of the residents, Mushtaq, sustained serious injuries in the shootout. Later, the dacoits tried to take shelter in a nearby garden, but the residents chased them and caught two outlaws while their two accomplices managed to flee. The arrested accused were identified as Ijaz Manik and Shid Rojhani.

Police have registered a case against them.
