KARACHI, July 7: A linking road of Lyari Town is in shambles as no repair work has been carried out on it for the last several years because of negligence of authorities, a survey shows.
The road links Mauripur Road with Sheedi Village Road, Lea Market is named after a philanthropist Fidha Husain Sheikh and is known as Fidha Husain Sheika Road.
It starts from the People’s Playground and passing through Nawabad, Darayabad, Baghdadi it ends at the Sheedi village road.
The road is very important for the residents of Lyari Town because it is the shortest way to reach the Karachi Fish Harbour and Mauripur Road.
But the residents say that over the years no attention has been paid to its repair by municipal authorities because of sheer negligence. As a result potholes have developed at different places.
Last year repair work was carried on a section of the road right from Mauripur Road up to old Ali Hotel. But it was washed away by torrential rains because of substandard works, a survey shows.
Area people complained that the repair work was not up to the mark. They urged the authorities to conduct an inquiry.
The survey also shows that almost the entire road network in different parts of Lyari is in shambles. Driving has become exceedingly difficult because of ditches and stagnant sewage.
According to the survey, barring a few major roads, no repair work has been carried out on several link and street roads for a decade.
Municipal authorities have always cited shortage of funds as one of the main problems for carrying out road works in the locality. But the area people put the blame on their negligence.
The residents fear that summer rains will further compound their miseries with sewage gushing out from defective sewerage lines as no emergency measures have been taken in this regard.
